Your Private Highland Tour

Are all your tours private?

Yes, completely. When you book with Unbound Scotland, the vehicle and driver-guide are exclusively yours. You won't be joining another group or following a coach full of strangers.

That means a more relaxed, personal day, with the freedom to explore the Highlands at a pace that suits you.

How many people can join a tour?

We can accommodate up to seven guests travelling together in one private vehicle.

Our prices are for the group, not individual seats, making private touring an attractive option for couples, families and groups of friends.

Can we change one of your suggested itineraries?

Absolutely. Think of our itineraries as a starting point rather than a set of instructions.

If there's somewhere you'd particularly like to visit, something you'd rather skip, or a subject that interests you, let us know. We'll help adjust the day while keeping travel times and opening hours in mind.

Can we create a completely bespoke tour?

Of course. Perhaps there's a particular castle on your family history trail, a landscape you've always wanted to photograph, or a few places you'd love to see but aren't sure how to fit together.

Tell us your ideas through our Create Your Own Tour page, and we'll help design a realistic, enjoyable journey around them.

How long do your tours last?

Most of our Highland day tours last around eight hours, although more distant destinations, such as the Isle of Skye, may require approximately twelve hours.

Each tour description includes an expected duration. Bespoke journeys are planned around your destinations, collection point and available time.

Collection, Transport & Cruise Excursions

Where can you collect us?

We offer complimentary collection and drop-off from suitable locations in Inverness, Invergordon Cruise Port and places that fall naturally along your chosen tour route.

Collection from further afield may be possible by arrangement, although additional charges or itinerary adjustments may apply.

Do you offer tours from Invergordon Cruise Port?

Yes. Our private shore excursions are a great alternative to a large organised coach tour.

We'll help you choose a route that makes the most of your time ashore, whether you're interested in Highland history, dramatic scenery, castles or discovering some of the area's quieter places.

Will we be back at the cruise port in time for our ship?

We plan cruise excursions carefully around your ship's scheduled arrival and departure, allowing a sensible margin for the return journey.

Please provide your ship's name and required boarding time when booking. While unexpected delays can never be ruled out entirely, getting you back to port in good time is always a priority.

What happens if our cruise ship's schedule changes?

Please contact us as soon as you become aware of a change.

We'll look at whether your tour can be adjusted to fit the revised schedule. If your ship is delayed or unable to dock, the applicable booking and cancellation terms will determine the options available.

What vehicle will we travel in?

You'll travel in a comfortable private people carrier, with room for up to seven guests and your driver-guide.

There is space for personal belongings and day bags, but please check with us beforehand if you intend to bring large suitcases or bulky equipment.

Families, Accessibility & Special Requests

Are children welcome?

Absolutely. A private tour gives families the flexibility to enjoy Scotland without trying to keep pace with a larger group.

Children must travel with a responsible adult and use an appropriate child seat or restraint where required. Please let us know their ages in advance so we can discuss suitable arrangements.

Can you accommodate guests with limited mobility?

We'll do our best to plan an enjoyable day around your requirements.

Some Highland sites have steep paths, steps and uneven surfaces, but there are often alternatives worth exploring.

Please contact us before booking so we can discuss access to the vehicle and the locations you'd like to visit, and confirm what's practical.

Can we change our plans during the tour?

Within reason, yes. If you discover somewhere you'd like to spend longer, or decide you'd prefer a different stop, we'll see what can be arranged.

We do need to consider travel distances, opening hours and existing reservations, but flexibility is one of the main advantages of travelling privately.

Can you help us celebrate a special occasion?

We'd be delighted to.

Whether it's a birthday, anniversary, family gathering or simply a holiday you've been looking forward to, we can help plan a day around the places and experiences that matter to you.

What should we bring?

Comfortable footwear, waterproof clothing and a few warm layers are always sensible, even during the summer months.

The weather can change surprisingly quickly in the Highlands, particularly in mountainous areas.

And we'd definitely recommend bringing a camera. You'll have plenty of opportunities to use it.

From planning your route to what to expect on the day, we've answered some of the questions guests most often ask. Can't find what you're looking for? Just get in touch, we're always happy to help.

A few things worth knowing before your Highland adventure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Booking, Prices & What's Included

Is the tour price per person or for the whole group?

Our private tours use tiered pricing, so the more people you bring, the less you pay per person!

Whether it's just the two of you or a full group of seven, you'll have your own private vehicle and dedicated driver-guide, with no strangers joining your adventure.

So why not bring the whole clan? Gather your family or friends, share the cost and enjoy the Highlands together. More people, better value, and a day that's entirely yours.

What does the tour price include?

Your tour includes private transport, a dedicated driver-guide and the journey outlined in your chosen experience.

Entry fees, distillery tours, tastings, meals and optional activities are not included unless specifically stated in the tour description.  We aim to make any additional costs clear before you book.

Do we need to book attractions and distilleries in advance?

Some attractions can be visited on arrival, while others, particularly popular distilleries and special experiences, require advance reservations.

If there's somewhere you're especially keen to visit, let us know before booking so we can help plan your day around it.

How far in advance should we book?

As early as you can, particularly if you're travelling during the busy summer season or visiting on a cruise ship.

Bespoke tours and experiences involving distillery visits or falconry may need additional planning, so a little extra notice is always helpful.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation and amendment conditions are provided during the booking process and in your booking confirmation.

Please review these before booking, and contact us as soon as possible if your plans change. We'll explain the options available under your booking terms.

During your highland adventure

Can we stop for photographs along the way?

Can we stop for photographs along the way?

Certainly! Some of the most memorable Highland views appear when you least expect them.

We're happy to make additional stops wherever it's safe and practical, while keeping enough time for the main places you've planned to visit.

Will we have time for lunch?

Yes. We'll allow time for a lunch stop during your tour.

Whether you're after a traditional Highland pub, a welcoming café or somewhere to grab a quick bite, we can help you find a suitable option along your route.

Food and drinks are not included unless specified in your booking.

What happens if it rains?

We'd be rather short of touring days if we stopped every time it rained in Scotland!

Our tours normally go ahead in typical Highland weather. We'll adjust stops where practical, although severe conditions may occasionally require a change of route or plans.

Safety always comes first, but a little rain certainly doesn't mean the day is spoiled.

Will we have the chance to see Highland wildlife?

Quite possibly. Depending on the route, habitat and season, you might encounter red deer, birds of prey, seals, dolphins or a variety of seabirds.

We'll keep an eye out and explain what you're seeing, but these are wild animals, so sightings are never guaranteed.

Sometimes the most interesting wildlife encounters are the unexpected ones.

Can we include a falconry experience?

Yes. Through our sister business, Unbound Falconry, we can arrange a hands-on bird of prey experience as part of a bespoke Highland journey.

It's a lovely opportunity to discover more about these remarkable birds and experience falconry for yourself.

Arrangements depend on availability, location and suitable conditions. Additional charges apply, so please enquire in advance.

Will we learn about the history of the places we visit?

Very much so. Understanding the stories behind the scenery is one of our favourite parts of guiding.

From Highland clans and Jacobite history to folklore, wildlife, geology and Gaelic place names, there's plenty to talk about.

We believe history should be fascinating and enjoyable, not something that feels like sitting through a school lesson.

Still have a question?

We're here to help you make the most of your time in Scotland.

Whether you're choosing between tours, planning a day ashore from your cruise ship or have an idea for a completely bespoke adventure, we'd love to hear from you.
